In 2020 Minehead Middle School implemented a new approach to teaching Writing in KS2 called Talk for Writing. This is used in Year 5 and Year 6 with some aspects branching through to upper school. Talk for Writing is a writing approach developed by Pie Corbett and follows the structure of how we learn. Children imitate the language needed for a type of writing by learning a model text by heart. They then read and analyse the model text and build up to write their own version. It is a creative, fun and impactful way to develop young writers and promote originality.
Talk for Writing has three key phases which work together to develop skills, confidence and independence in writing, building imaginative, creative and effective writers.
