Head of Maths: Mr Toby Eveleigh
Maths at Minehead Middle School is taught in mixed ability groups in lower school and ability set groups in upper school. There are data collection points throughout the year which allow movement of students between groups if necessary.
In years 5 and 6 the teaching is delivered by the year teams, whereas in years 7 and 8 all the maths is taught by Mr T Eveleigh & Miss S Davenport.
We follow the new National Curriculum and coverage is delivered using the ‘White Rose Hub’ scheme of in all years.
We aim to provide a balance of reasoning, fluency and problem solving tasks throughout units taught to develop the deeper understanding required to be a successful mathematician. We also strive to make maths relevant, interesting and a subject to underpin the student's life skills.
In years 7 and 8 some students are entered for the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge as well as joining with the West Somerset College to enter joint teams in the Team Challenge.
Students are encouraged to use electronic aids to help with their learning, and to that extent will have personal log-in details for one or more online resources which may include TTRockstars.
