Over the course of two mornings 24 students played in two chess tournaments. The first tournament, Tuesday 10th December saw the 24 players compete against each other in a round robin style competition with the top 10 progressing to the knockout stage. The finals were then played the following Monday 16th December, with the 3rd and 4th place battle between Flynn 6CC and Callum 8CH, with Flynn being victorious. The champions battle took place between Leo 5JM and Seb 5FR. The pair couldn't be split so the competition ended with a quickfire match with Seb proving just too strong at the end. Monday also saw Dr Peter, who runs the weekly chess club take on the top 14 players in a simultaneous tournament which saw him take all 14 players at once. After over an hour of playing Dr Peter finally defeated all, with Zach 5FR and Daniel 8TL being last to fall. Logan 8MJB was the outright winner with the one and only victory over Dr Peter. All winners were given prizes and all competitors, a badge. Many thanks to Dr Peter running the weekly chess club (Tuesday lunchtimes) and we hope to run more in-school tournaments in the future, as well as play against other local school in the future.
